CRDC Intellectual Property (IP) Policy

CRDC’s focus on the adoption of R&D results has lead to a change in intellectual property ownership strategies and adoption methods.  CLICK TO DOWNLOAD POLICY

In broad terms the principle of IP ownership being vested in the applicant has changed to one of varying from project to project following consultation with relevant research providers.

In the majority of cases the research outcomes from CRDC investment will result in technical knowledge rather than the creation of new technologies that require specific IP protection and commercialisation.

To this end, an adoption pathway based on grower engagement and presentation of outcomes in a ‘grower-ready’ form is paramount.

In a small number of cases where projects do have significant, identifiable Background IP and potential Project IP, a more detailed analysis, valuation and risk assessment will be conducted by CRDC and an IP position negotiated with the research provider(s).

The revised policy became effective for any new projects commencing on or after 1 July 2005.

Ultimately, CRDC aims to facilitate efficient and effective development and adoption of R&D results to achieve maximum benefits to the cotton industry. The change in our IP & Commercialisation policy and procedures is expected to help deliver these results and we look forward to working with you in achieving this outcome.
