Julian Craven is the 2024-26 CRDC-supported AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship awardee.
Julian is studying for a Bachelor of Science (Agriculture Innovation and Water Science and Policy) degree at Australian National University in Canberra. CRDC Innovation Broker Rachel Holloway will oversee Julian’s two-year scholarship and organise placements and opportunities within the industry.
“This is a great honour and I look forward to working with my sponsor CRDC, the work experience and mentorships,” Julian says.
“I hope to really utilise my industry connections in gaining a further understanding in the science, RD&E, and leadership aspects of agriculture.”
Agriculture has always been a big part of Julian’s life, growing up in rural Victoria and with parents closely linked to the industry.
“I am passionate about sustainable agriculture, particularly water science. I also have a keen interest in international and domestic engagements between industries and markets in an increasingly globalised world.
“I can only anticipate how beneficial this scholarship will be in progressing my professional development in the industry as well as discovering more about who I aspire to be in the workforce following my tertiary studies. I look forward to what the future brings!”
The AgriFutures Horizon Scholarship Program provides university students who are studying agriculture of related majors with an opportunity to learn, grow their leadership skills and expand their networks. Sponsors, including CRDC and other Research and Development Corporations (RDCs), provide support for the students over the two-years of their program. Each scholar receives a $10,000 bursary to aid with university and living expenses, attends annual four-day professional development workshops, and completes two weeks of industry work placements each year within their sponsored industry.
